Shannon Corey: Press/Reviews
KEYBOARD MAGAZINE UNSIGNED ARTIST OF THE MONTH
Part Ben Folds, Sara Bareilles, and Fiona Apple, New York piano-woman Shannon Corey brings smoky vocals and strong piano chops to 'unsaid'. "I Miss Home" is warmly nostalgic, while "Fate" rides on an energetic arrangement of piano and strings. Assured and nuanced, Shannon's keyboard work speaks of both classical study and a great sensitivity to what any given songs needs rather than how many notes it can hold before exploding. And though the song isn't featured on 'unsaid', you must visit Shannon's webpage to listen to her cover of the Police's "Message in a Bottle." A deft and thoughtful reworking, Shannon makes the classic her own with nothing but elegant vocals and piano, a storm cloud atmosphere, and a subtle, wistful sexiness.

LITTLER EARTHQUAKES
While a few touring musicians swing by both Stamford and Danbury or Danbury and Bridgeport, three Fairfield County events in two days seems a bit much to ask of even congressional contenders Chris Shays and Jim Himes. One singer/songwriter dares to do it: the very talented (and very cute) Shannon Corey. Born in Providence and schooled in New York City, the starry-eyed and apple-faced Corey packs a wallop on the piano. Her classical training, rich sound and proclivity for random cover songs (she wraps Message in a Bottle around her finger) makes for easy comparisons to Tori Amos, although her subdued feistiness is more in line with Fiona Apple. The Yahama-endorsed pianist will play songs from her debut Unsaid tonight in Danbury and twice tomorrow in Fairfield. Billy Baloneys, 6 Ives St, Danbury. 8 p.m. $10. www.myspace.com/billybaloneys. Chef's Table, 1561 Post Road, Fairfield. 1:30 p.m. Free. (203) 255-1779. Las Vetas Lounge, 1462 Post Road, Fairfield. 8 p.m. Free. (203) 255-1958.
THE CHICKEN FISH SPEAKS REVIEW
Shannon Corey - Unsaid - This sounds a bit like a blend of Fiona Apple and Sarah McLachlan on vocals. Cindy, my wife, said that Shannon sounds so much like one of her favorite bands, Fairground Attraction, that it's scary. Regardless it's very well played female singer songwriter indie folk rock with catchy melodies and excellent execution. Shannon Corey is an amazing vocalist and her voice blends so well with the instrumentation that every song just glides. The piano playing is along the lines of Tori Amos, but a bit more subdued and the addition of strings on many tracks brings out the full emotion in each creation.

FEMALE BILLY JOEL with musical arrangement talent
Voice of an angel, uncorrupt in it's delivery. Musical resonence pleasant and easy on the ears. A touch of rock; a touch of jazz; more than just pop. Vocal Tones are obviously trained and not obnoxiously fancy or repetative. Lyrics can be understood without over-concentration and have a logical story progression. This is true talent and not a fad as many of the "stars" appear to be.
