ROAD TRIP - September 17, 2007

WORCESTER, MA...

Hey everyone... This past weekend I traveled to Mass for the START ON THE STREET FESTIVAL with Jenn Goff behind the wheel and Susan Aquila in the back seat... Here are some highlights...

FIRST of all, we got lost. Aparently we took the Millbury exit when we were supposed to take the Millbury STREET exit (stupid us)... we were then supposed to follow Eve street which merged into PROVIDENCE street (which we found off the WRONG exit) so we figured we were safe...
NOPE.. not at all really! apPARENTLY, there is ALSO an eve street in Millbury which is diRECTLY under Worcester and it ALSO merges into a Providence street... in MILLBURY...

NEXT, we tried to find our way back and asked a very nice gentleman how to get to Worcester when he proceeded to call me BIG MAN (?) for whatever reason, I'm not sure...

Finally, leaving the festival, we needed to ask directions home...so Jenn, midst frustration, very politely checked in with a WUSTA cop whom she coninuously called sir and spent 5 minutes saying please and thank you to... as we were leaving, I graciously lean out the window and scream "Thans dude"... like he was my brother... thus killing his ego trip... boo-hoo WUSTA cop...

Moral of the road trip story... when looking for 146 (pronounced one FAWTY six) make sure you rememebr that ALL towns in Mass have the SAME STREET NAMES and to take the correct exit...

love,
BIG MAN

ON THE STREET FESTIVAL in WORCESTER, MASS on SEPT 16th!!!

... Letter from Kristen...

When the Goombah online public votes came in I knew last night's Semi
Finals were going to be difficult to "judge". All 7 Semi Finalists
were neck in neck and when voting closed there was often less than 20
votes between each artist. The Rhode Island Starbucks was PACKED the
entire night. Each performer brought their own fans who cheered them
on. Body wise the room was filled with consistent numbers but as I
looked around the room I noticed that the smiles changed with each
set. When all was said and done Sam Bigelow was awarded the evening's
title. Congratulations to Sam! Shannon Corey grabbed the online votes,
with Rachel Sage coming in second.

But the only true "beating" came for the judges. They were sincerely
upset by the prospect of making a decision. Every artist was
outstanding. Every artist won the cheers and admiration of their
audience. Each one moved and inspired all of us, including their
competition. Sam summed up best when upon winning the title he said
he was inspired by his fellow artists and couldn't wait to get home
and write a song.

There were a hundred highlights last night but for those of you who
missed them here's a recap of a few:

Michael Troy opens the night with "Talk Radio"... immediately
breaking my heart.
Rachel Sage and her cellist perform "Chandelier" and the goose bumps
rise up on my skin.
OurStage artist, Brian Bergeron, humors with banter about hecklers
and sings love songs.
Casey Desmond performs in front of an audience filled with devoted
fans, some of which hold signs expressing their love for her.
Sam Bigelow brings blues and soul to Starbucks and thrills the
audience with his mad skills on the the keys.
Shannon Corey performs "I Miss Home" and for the first time has every
member of her family referenced in the song gathered in her audience.
Ryan Fitzsimmons closes the night with guitar, vocals and lyrics so
powerful that it feels like a just finale to an amazing night of
performances.

It is also really great to have everyone acknowledge the work of the
SMMC staff. Andie, Brendan, Jeff and Melissa join me in taking a lot
of pride in this series. It means a lot to me when I overhear all of
you thanking them for making the night flawless.

As always, many thanks to the amazing partners at Starbucks, who were
rocking an 80's theme last night. OurStage's Quinn Strassel was a
charming host per usual. Our sponsors, Starbucks, BMI, Goombah,
OurStage, Q Division and WBOS were given love from the mic through
out the night and I want to thank them all again.

Next Thursday we are in Somerville. Looking at the line-up I can
honestly say that there is something for every musical taste. It's
going to be a tough decision and I'm thankful I'm not a judge. I will
be making notes as to who possible wild cards might be. We are waiting
until the Semis wrap because the talent is too incredible to call.

See you all Thursday!

Best,

KB

STUDIO - November 9, 2006

Right now, as I write, Tom Stuart of Radio*America is sitting on a stool here at Mother West with a guitar on his knee re-recording the guitars for Sunday Morning... It has been an incredibly long week, but Tom adn Charles (my producer) with all of their brilliance seem to be streaming together the last bits of guitar for the album... (and YES I call it an album)
We are so close to the end, yet SOOOO far and every day all I want to do is listen to the finished product!! as do many of you who keep asking about it! "is it done yet?" ha!!! i WISH...ahhh the pains of a first album!

ok, back to listen... more to come

wow it's been a while... - October 17, 2006

Ok, people... I know it has been a while since I've written in my Journal... BUT THE ALBUM IS HAPPENING and it seems to keep me rather busy!!!!!

SOOO many good things... We have GORGEOUS, FULL string sections on a couple of songs (INCLUDING "I MISS HOME") and they are sounding more amazing every time I listen to them...

I have also taken some rather good advice from close friends and AGREE that HOLD ON needs to be completely re-recorded and ROCKED OUT!!! Apparently, the version I did at my Birthday show kicked ass... so it's BACK to the drawing board for that one...

Speaking of drawing, I have asked my sister (a FABULOUS artist) to sketch some images for me for the insert! Can't wait to see what she comes up with!!!

more to come...

169 Bar and tequilla don't mix - June 11, 2006

So Where do I even begin about last night?

FIRST of all... THANK YOU TO EVERYONEEEEEEE who came out to 169 Bar and STAYEDDDDDD till 1am to see me sing!

ALSO, thank you to PETER SACHON who came to an 11:30 set and stayed to play cello till 1:30am.... beautifully as always!

ALSO!!! thank you to the booking agent that put a piano cello set after a band covering RAGE SONGS!! HAAAAAA It was AWESOME!
It was actually the first time I had everyone singing message in a bottle and the first time i was drunk before we played so at least I thought it was awesome!!!!!!!!

I also got to chat with the band that played before us and they're a bunch of really great guys from CT. You can check them out at myspace.com/autumnunderground

Rachel got some great shots of us rocking out so when i get them I'll put them up on the page.

OH, and i think there was a dead fish in the fish tank... did anyone see that??

love to everyone for sticking it out for the music. and if you WERE There, feel free to comment on the evening in the GUESTBOOK section of this site. I'd love to know what everyone thought!

Kenny's Castaways Show - August 27, 2005

Kenny's on Friday night was awesome! It was a big crowd and the band was killer! Dan on Bass, Shawn on Drums, and Suzie on Cello. Suzie came in last minute and we LOVE her! She's extremely talented and hopefully you all will be seeing her again soon. (with a real music stand and no fan blowing her music!) AND YES, Shawn looks like Bo Bice. Many have commented so I figured I'd just put it out there. :)
Glad you all got to see such a great show. Keep checking the site for updates.

LOVE SHANNON XOXO

The Bitter End Show - July 28, 2005

7/27 at The Bitter End was the first time with the new and incredibly talented band! Dan Ehrlich (Bass); Shawn Hill (Drums); and Peter Sachon (Cello) who took a night out from The Light in the Piazza to do this.
After the show I received a handful of e-mails asking how we all started working together... well, I RANDOMLY found Shawn after responding to an add on CRAIGSLIST!! (we LOVE craigslist....) And as unheard of as this is, Shawn and Dan pretty much came as a pair! They've been playing and working together for a while and I just got lucky enough to find them and convince them to play with me too!! ;)
Peter I actually found last year playing for Amanda Green and Tom Kitt at Birdland! I knew he was amazing and so the second I met him I told him he had to play with the band. :) and he did!! That's pretty much it!
These guys have been working really hard for the past month and I want to send a HUGE thank you to them!!
Look out for Kenny's Castaways on 8/26!!!!!!!!!!!

lots of love,
Shannon
