i miss home

shannon corey
here take a glass
haven’t seen you in a while
come sit by me
we can talk and laugh about growing up
wasn’t it funny when jessi dressed you up like a girl
even though daddy didn’t really think so
and I miss home
sometimes I wonder what it would have been like if I stayed
I miss home sometimes
I wonder why I ever went away

come out to New York
are the girls still too young
remember when I saw the oldest being born
five years have gone by how did i
go from the first word to the girl in the picture
smiling at all the birthdays
but it’s moments like this
when I’m heading to a show
that I realize the reason and I keep pushing on
there are moments that come
moments that go
somehow I fear I’ll never know where I belong

thanks for being home
it’s been a long day and soon
I’ll have to go
I think I’ll sleep in tomorrow
haven’t had a moments peace in so long
but it’s moments again
when I remember why I’ve gone
it’s hard to stand still when you’re slowly moving on
there are moments that come
moments that go
somehow I fear I’ll never know

Mother, father
X-mas tree in the corner
picture perfect girls in their perfect dresses
letter pancakes on my birthday
Italian dinners, dad’s guitar
Let’s drive around in my new car
and I miss home
